ANNE BLAIR BROWN

Anne Blair Brown was born in North Kingstown, Rhode Island and currently resides in Nashville, TN. Her work centers on both rural and urban landscapes, people, and interior spaces. Her past experiences as a chef are reflected in many of her paintings, which feature scenes of outdoor cafes and restaurants.  While she enjoys the quiet solitude of her studio, she delights in painting “en plein air” when possible. Brown says, “Painting on location creates an intimacy with the subject that informs my studio work. It heightens my sense of spontaneity, and that energy is translated to the canvas.”

Currently, Anne’s work can be seen at art galleries across America including Provincetown, MA, Carmel, CA, Boca Raton, FL, Richmond, VA, and Tomales, CA.

Recent accomplishments include “Best of Show” at the 43rd Annual Central South Art Exhibition National hosted by the Tennessee Art League, acceptance into the 2011 Eastern Regional Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils, hosted by Oil Painters of America, as well as acceptance into the American Impressionist Society’s 12th Annual National Juried Exhibition. Anne also has been juried into prestigious national plein air competitions such as Plein Air Easton, Easton, Maryland, and Wayne Plein Air, Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Brown’s paintings are featured in the Tennessee State Museum's permanent collection, and in various private collections worldwide. She has been featured in such periodicals as Carmel Magazine, The Provincetown Banner, The Times-Picayune, and Nashville Arts Magazine.

Anne Blair Brown is an active member of The Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Painters of the Southeast (PAP-SE), The American Impressionist Society, and The Chestnut Group, a nonprofit group of artists dedicated to preserving endangered ecosystems, historic locales, and aesthetically and environmentally significant places.
