VICKI McMURRY

Texas artist Vicki McMurry is an exceptionally talented painter who is recognized for her wonderful use of color and her assured brushwork. Her subject matter generally includes landscapes (often featuring water) of vistas both here and abroad, dancers, and charming cafe scenes.

"As with most artists, my work portrays a lifetime of experiences. I grew up in West Texas where I could see the clouds roll in long before they were overhead....I encompass this sense of distance and space to give the viewer more depth into the painting and a strong sense of freedom....Years of classical violin training play a major roll in my brushwork.  I like music that takes me on a ride from fast and furious to slow and mellow...and leaves me invigorated at the end.  [In painting], I use short and long, up and down, wavy and straight, thin and fat strokes.....I want the viewers of my work to feel the same sense of vast spaces.... I work through the complexities of life, hoping to find the simplicities at the end."
